It won’t be wrong to say that the world of SEO has changed to a great extent. We at times see more than one updates back to back from major search engines like Google. We just had one in the last quarter of 2016, i.e. Penguin updates that rewarded high-end websites in terms of quality an important part of its key algorithm. Amplification was also observed in the featured snippets of SERPs (search engine results pages).
Removal of Adwords from the right-side of result pages for the desktop versions of searches, Google’s accelerated mobile pages (AMP) and including the maximum number of 4 ads on top of the organically churned out results.
Marketing specialists together with search engine optimization agencies globally have halted their love with building links plus keywords and phrases so as to revise the priority factors. The focus from them is more in the domain of content that is high in quality.
One must be on top of all the SEO related information and must ensure that he/she is well aware of how this entire thing of SEO works? Especially when one is performing in and targeting complex markets like Dubai. SEO Dubai trends are facing serious competition levels because business operators are keener to ensure that they make the most out of the search engines when it comes to divert traffic toward their public domain sites.
The question that may pop up in one’s mind is, ‘does this mean that an SEO expert now should only post high-quality content only that is in line with the keywords, i.e. optimized adequately?’ Not really, SEO techniques and practices have altered greatly in the past few years and this has opened windows of confusions for marketers because most of them may be clueless or not sure as in what to do? What is it that is outdated, which approach shall they be considering, what should be the inclusion and exclusion criteria etc.?
Following are some of the very common myths and suppositions as in how SEO functions and they are exposed for the reader so that one can avoid wasting time on areas that simply won’t matter in 2017 when it comes to SEO practices:
1. Submitting your website to Google:
You must stop wasting your time on this nonsense idea of submitting your website to Google for it to be displayed on the search results pages. On the other hand, a newly built website may submit its URL to Google straight away. Major search engines like Google will find your website anyways even if you have not submitted it. Even if you go for submission, it does not guarantee that your website will be submitted immediately. Google Crawlers will find and index your website anyways in the due course, so you must not worry about telling Google about your website. To understand this point you may revert to Matt Cutts’s Lesson 1.3 on “How Search works“.
2. Content is not as important as having more links:
Not very long ago, webmasters used to go for maximum number of backlinks, without bothering too much about their domain authority and this is how they used to achieve their higher SEO ranks goal. This activity of link building is still highly significant segment that is associated with ranking factors. It is ranked among the top five highly crucial ranking factors even today. Thing were going on in this passion until back in May 2013 when Penguin 2.0 update was released that changed this entire scenario.
As of then, it cannot be any back link that one may rely on, one must focus on quality links instead of going for quantity. At times less, back links may offer better results provided one is familiar with the process of link building in a proper way.
3. HTTPS encrypted site is not important for SEO:
Back in August 2014, Google declared that it had started considering HTTPS as a core factor and signal for its ranking algorithms. If your website still is among those that rely on HTTP only, it may suffer a lot when it comes to rank high. In September 2016, Google pressed its foot further on this area by announcing that it Chrome will flag all those sites that are HTTP only as insecure and they will be classified as potentially unsafe sites starting from January 2017. So, if you have not upgraded this department then you might as well do it at your earliest.
4. Search engine optimization is all about ranking:
At the same time as there is burly correlation amid search results positioning plus click through ratio, ranking is not classified as supreme as it used to be a while ago. Studies that have been focused on user behaviors and click through ratios have demonstrated that viewers prefer the top results only, to be precise the top three to five results. An interesting fact, however is that subsequent search results pages, where results are shown on the top demonstrates similar behavior from users. With results based on searches now being added and backed with rich text, search results that are visible below the top three results tend to get better click through ratios.
Success however still could not be guaranteed with rankings even before all the above mentioned was applied. Logically speaking, one may get at the top of ranks with a keyword and may even get tons of users’ traffic yet may fail to make a single buck from it. I am sure no one would want that, would they?
This is where the entire confusion starts where one is of the view that higher ranking would mean better search traffic. The fact that users will see you at the top stays, however it does not mean that your website will enjoy the luxury of more click-through and traffic. Following are some reasons behind this:
- Optimization of keywords that may not be related to your field or nature of business. To avoid this blunder, you must ensure that you pick relevant keywords after a careful consideration and carrying out proper keyword analysis.
- The Meta description written by you may not be appealing enough to invite the users by catching their attention. To cap this gap, you will need to use the right language and tone, one that may help you in compelling users to click through to your website. Writing a description that is more close to your industry and can give a familiar feeling to the viewers would be the best approach here.
- Results shown at the top are not always based on organic listings. This fact becomes further prominent when products and services listing adverts snatch the clicks away from those results that may be organic in nature. To fight this scenario, one must consider the idea of going for paid search on searches that are mobile oriented where four adverts are on top.
- Top ranks might be based on featured snippet and that may acquire further clicks when compared to a number one listing. To rectify this issue, you must ensure that your content is placed on the page 1 of search results and is sound in structure.
That’s all for now, however I will soon be sharing some more myths that are critical in nature and are associated with the world of search engine optimization. There is nothing wrong with your reliance on SEO Dubai trends however my aim would be to enable you to use these trends to the best possible extents and milk the online world of Dubai markets to the fullest when it comes to returns on investments made by you.
